Drexel Women in Computing Society

The Drexel University ACM-W Student Chapter is called the Women in Computing Society (WiCS). We are an organization tailored to support women-identifying people in computing fields and students interested in technology. Its purpose is to support, recruit, and retain women pursuing a degree in the broad field of computing. WiCS connects its members with each other and the greater computing world through mentorship programs, social gatherings, guest speakers, workshops, and national and regional conferences. The ultimate goal is to empower women in technology fields to succeed and thrive in the Drexel community and beyond. This organization is open to anyone who supports women in tech!

Drexel University ACM-W Student Chapter is hosting 3 different mentorship programs including Alumni & Professional Mentorship, Technical Mentorship, and Peer Mentorship for the 2021-2022 academic year. The programs start on September 20, 2021, and will end at the end of the academic year, September 5, 2022.

There are over 100 mentors and mentees in total. Our alumni mentors work at Google, Microsoft, Amazon, AWS, Bloomberg LP, AstraZeneca, Accenture, Macquarie Group, etc.

The Alumni and Professional Mentorship program, in collaboration with Drexel Alumni Relations, focuses on the mentor-mentee relationship which helps to build professional connections, get career advice, build a professional resume, and get internship opportunities.

The Technical Mentorship is a low-requirement, group-based program where a group of students works on developing a small project under a mentor's technical guidance. This will help students develop their programming skills and give them a chance to put cool projects in their resumes!

The Peer Mentorship Program is designed to help students interact with their classmates, seniors, juniors, etc., to learn about Drexel and its opportunities, job opportunities, classes, and a lot more. It will help students build connections in the long term.

The mentorship programs are one of the most successful activities of the Drexel University ACM-W Student Chapter because it helps pair over 100 students with mentors for learning and networking. Drexel's cooperative education program (co-op) is one of the best experiences offered by the school, and the mentorship programs help connect students with professionals in the field and prepare them for resume and technical interviews.
